METHOD

Team Rotation

The students work on a series of tasks, regularly sharing their answers or perspectives across teams.

This method is suitable for creating dynamics, movement, and active participation from many students as they discuss and share tasks across teams.

1

Give the students numbers from 1 to 4 within their teams.

2

Give the students a challenge to solve or discuss.

3

Select one student from each team to rotate to another team (e.g., clockwise).

4

Ask the student who is rotating to share what their team has discussed, and allow the groups to discuss and compare.

5

Give a new task and continue from step 3, but have student number 2 rotate instead. The student rotates to two teams (e.g., clockwise), so the teams get mixed up.

Didactic tips:

  • Give the teams numbers so that the students who rotate know where to go.

  • Give the student rotating a specific material to take with them to help remember the key points from their original team.

  • Use the method to form random teams when it makes sense.
