In groups, students take turns answering a question or challenge within an assigned time.
The method is suitable for sharing knowledge and ensuring that all students get a chance to speak.
Ask a question or give a challenge that invites longer answers.
Give students thinking and/or preparation time depending on the task.
Tell the students how much time each of them has to answer the question/challenge.
Tell who starts, and start a timer.
Continue until everyone in the group has shared their answer or time is up.
Let groups keep track of time themselves using a mobile phone. Appoint a timekeeper in each group to remind them when time is almost up.
Encourage students to help each other by asking follow-up questions if someone has difficulty filling the time.
It’s better to give students slightly too little time than too much, as this creates energy and pace. Adjust the timing based on the task.
