METHOD

A New Perspective

Students capture new perspectives on an object, phenomenon, or situation.

This method trains students to consciously seek the surprising and undiscovered.

1

Students identify an object, phenomenon, or situation they want to explore from new perspectives.

2

They gain access to the object, phenomenon, or seek out the situation. If that’s not possible, they find pictures or videos that can be used instead.

3

Students look for something surprising or previously unnoticed. They use all their senses: seeing, listening, smelling, touching, and tasting.

4

Students take photos of their discoveries and describe the unique smell, texture, taste, sound, or detail. It could be a perspective they’ve never seen before or details they hadn’t noticed previously.

5

Students compile their photos and descriptions into a slideshow, or they can create a photo collage on a digital wall, such as Padlet.

Didactic tips:

  • Ask students to work systematically by observing from every possible and impossible angle, and by examining all details one at a time.
