METHOD

Prioritised voting

Pupils prioritise ideas, suggestions, or solutions according to their preferences, and the idea with the highest overall ranking is selected.

This method ensures that the choice reflects the pupils’ collective preferences and allows for a more nuanced prioritisation.

1

Present the ideas, suggestions, or solutions that pupils are to evaluate. Ensure that all proposals are clearly described and understood by the pupils.

2

Pupils prioritise the ideas, suggestions, or solutions from their first to last preference (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.).

3

Collect the pupils’ votes and calculate a total score for each idea: assign points according to ranking (e.g., 1 point for first place, 2 points for second place, and so on). The idea with the lowest total score (highest average ranking) is selected.

4

Review the results and reveal the selected idea.

Didactic tips:

  • Pupils can optionally explain their priorities to deepen their reflection.
  • If there are multiple ideas, suggestions, or solutions with the same score, pupils can vote again between those that are tied.
  • Consider discussing with the pupils why the chosen idea, suggestion, or solution received the most support.
  • Digital tools like Excel or Google Forms can simplify the process of collecting and calculating the results.
  • This method is used, among other activities, in activity XXX.
