ACTIVITY

Film premiere

Students prepare a film premiere where they present their own film productions to an audience, such as other students, parents or people from the local community.

The intention is for students to gain experience presenting their films in an authentic context and experience recognition for their work.

1

Tell the students that they are going to hold a film premiere where they will show their own films to an audience. Explain to them how it will be done and what the requirements are for their presentation of the film.

2

With the Brainstorming method, students come up with ideas for how they would create an authentic premiere experience (e.g. with a red carpet, posters, introductions to the films, music).

3

Students design posters, flyers, or digital invitations to advertise the film premiere.

4

The students prepare their presentation of their film with their group. If necessary, give the students framework criteria regarding time, content and form of their presentation, including whether everyone in the group should say something.

5

The students practice presenting their films briefly and precisely. They introduce their films to the other group, and the groups give each other feedback using the Two Stars and a Wish method.

6

The students prepare the room. They set up the screen/projector and any decorations so that the room has the atmosphere of a real movie premiere. They test that the videos work.

7

The guests arrive. The students welcome them and ensure that they have a good experience, for example by showing them to their seats and presenting the program.

8

The films are shown one by one, and the students briefly introduce their films to the audience.

Didactic tips:

  • Give students responsibility for different roles. Some can be hosts, others can introduce the films, manage the technique or document the event with pictures/video.
  • Use the film premiere as the end of a project to give students a meaningful conclusion and recognition for their work.
  • Consider holding the film premiere somewhere outside of school, such as a cinema, library or cultural centre to make the experience more authentic.
  • Once the audience has left, students can use the 3-2-1-Evaluation method to reflect on what it was like to show their film to an audience and receive feedback.
  • Let students reflect on and discuss what worked well and what they would do differently next time.
