Cards – Food Footprints

he Food Footprint Cards are an engaging educational tool that shows the environmental impact of different foods and drinks. Each card presents data for a typical portion size, helping students and the general public understand how their everyday food choices affect the planet.

  • Land use (m²) – how much agricultural land is needed to produce the food.

  • Carbon footprint (kg CO₂) – the greenhouse gas emissions released during production.

  • Water use (L) – the amount of water consumed for the product.

By comparing foods – for example, beef steak vs. apple, or milk vs. plant-based alternatives – users can visually see the difference in environmental impact.

The cards encourage discussion, critical thinking, and awareness about sustainable diets, supporting SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action. They can be used in classrooms, workshops, or awareness campaigns to spark conversation and inspire more sustainable food choices.
