Students explore how bread was made and eaten throughout history and compare it with their own eating habits, while also reflecting on resource use and sustainability in different eras.
The intention is to gain insight into the role of bread in culture and society and to reflect on how sustainable practices have changed (or disappeared) over time.
Start with: “What kind of bread do you eat at home?”
Show old bread types → discuss ingredients, baking methods, packaging.
Add: Which of these practices were more/less sustainable (local grains, hand-made, no plastic)?
Groups create a timeline that includes both cultural context and sustainability factors.
Share findings with the class.
