ACTIVITY

Bring your closet to school

The students take a picture of their clothes in their closet at home and bring this picture to school to show and tell.

The intention is to discuss different closets, amount of clothes and setups.

Before:

  • Ask students beforehand to take a picture of their clothing in their closet at home.
1

Explain that this is a visual exploration of how we use and organize clothing. Emphasize there is no right or wrong — closets differ for many reasons (space, culture, needs, style).

2

Show the pictures that students brought of their closet at home (digitally or physically).

3

Ask each students to describe:

  • What is seen in the picture: type/amount of clothing, organization style.
  • How does the student feel about their closet (too much / not enough / just right).
  • Any story about a favorite item or habit (folding, colour grouping, etc.).
4

Discuss patterns and contrasts:

  • What similarities do we notice?
  • How do our closets reflect lifestyle, seasons, or sustainability?
  • How might the number of clothes affect how we use them?
5

Create a collage display together with the students.

  • Collect printed photos and arrange them on a large background (poster board or wall).
  • Encourage creative grouping: by color, size, style, or random mosaic.
  • Add short captions, student names (optional), or reflection words (e.g., organized, chaotic, minimalist, colorful).
6

Display and reflect

  • Exhibit the collage in a hallway or classroom.
  • Invite viewers to observe the diversity of clothing habits.
  • Have students write or discuss short reflections:

    • “What did you learn by seeing everyone’s closets?”
    • “How does this make you think differently about clothing use?”

Didactic tips:

  • Add a sustainability focus: Count how many items are second-hand or reused.
  • Digital collage: Combine photos into one shared online board (e.g., Canva, Google Slides).
  • Follow-up activity: Compare closet contents again after a few months — has anything changed?
