ACTIVITY

Wear the music: from closet to concert

The students will work in groups to prepare a fashion show inspired by different music genres, using old clothes from their own wardrobes that they no longer wear.

The intention is for students to develop creativity and design skills, understand the environmental impact of clothing choices, and learn to express musical and cultural identity through fashion.

1

Divide the class into groups of 3–5 students using the Competency Groups method.

2

Assign one music genre (rock, hip-hop, disco, country, or electronic) per group.

3

Within each group, students should decide on:

  • One model (the student who will wear the outfit)
  • Designers/stylists (who adapt and create the outfit)
  • Presenters or assistants (who help with the on-stage presentation).
4

Each group must:

  • Create one outfit representing their assigned music genre.
  • Use only clothing items they already own and no longer use.
  • Adapt or redesign the clothes (by sewing, cutting, decorating, or combining pieces) to fit the style of the genre
5

Each group creates a short presentation (1–2 minutes) during the fashion show, introducing their genre and describing their outfit. The model will walk the runway. Play short excerpts of music representing each genre during the presentation. Other group members may speak or perform to support the presentation (music, short act, or commentary).

6

The teacher (and optionally a small jury of teachers or students) will evaluate each performance.
