ACTIVITY

My breakfast diary

The students start their personal ‘Breakfast Diary’ where they note down what they eat for breakfast each day for one week and reflect on their food choices.

The intention is to raise awareness about breakfast habits, food diversity, and sustainable food choices through simple self-observation.

1

Teacher introduces the topic: ‘What do you usually eat for breakfast?’ and discusses why breakfast matters – Brainstorming (3 min).

2

Students receive their My breakfast diary – a simple table with columns for Date, Food/Drink, and Reflection (e.g., Where does it come from? Is it healthy/sustainable?) (3 min).

3

Together they fill in one example for today’s breakfast to understand the task (3 min).

4

Teacher explains that students will continue writing in their diaries at home for a week (4 min).

5

Quick wrap-up: students share one thing they noticed about their breakfast habits (2 min).

Didactic tips:

  • Adapt the diary layout for different ages.
  • Extend activity later with discussion on local vs imported food.
  • Can serve as an introduction to lessons on nutrition, sustainability, or carbon footprint of food.
