Activity

Photoview with clothes

Students see photos of different climate challenges in relation to clothing consumption and the fashion industry. They relate to them and formulate statements of wonder and questions.

The intention is to engage students and arouse their curiosity about the climate challenges of clothing.

1

Show Photoview with clothes to the class – one at a time. With the Photoview with clothes method each students silently takes notes, sharing their wonderings and thoughts about clothing on the worksheet: Photoview with clothes.

2

Students rephrase their wondering statements into questions. Preferably as many questions as possible for each statement. Examples of questions:

  • Where do clothes go when they get thrown out?
  • How many clothes do I really have?
  • Do we need all these clothes?
  • Why do we buy clothes?
3

In groups, students try to answer the questions one by one with the knowledge they have about clothes on the Photoview with clothes worksheet.

4

Post all the puzzling questions that the groups cannot fully answer on a Photoview with clothes. The questions can be the starting point for further investigation in class.

Didactic tips

  • Expand the activity with a perspective where the class considers the sender-receiver
relationship and what the photographer wants to say with their image (message).
