METHOD

Expert Carousel

The students share the knowledge they have gathered with the rest of the class.

This method is useful for sharing large amounts of information in a relatively short amount of time, while also giving all students the opportunity to share and practice presenting.

BEFORE:

The students have previously researched a specific topic in groups. The knowledge gathered by the groups is now shared with the rest of the class using this method.

1

Assign different areas within the classroom. In these areas, they will present their specific topic of expertise.

2

Give each student in the group a number from 1 to 4.

3

Tell the students which area they should start by going to, based on their number. For example, all students with number 1 go to A, number 2 to B, and so on. The new groups will consist of one student representative, who will present a topic, and three students who will listen.

4

The representative for the area presents the topic to the rest of the group.

5

When the time is up, the students thank the presenter and rotate to the next area, where the new representative presents their topic to the rest of the group. The process continues around the expert carousel until everyone has presented.

Didactic tips:

  • Make the students aware that they have prepared together beforehand, but that now they will be on their own when it comes to presenting.
  • You might consider reversing the process, so the students prepare with another group and then present in their own group.
  • Insert a feedback process after each student has presented. For example, using the method Two Stars and a Wish.
  • This method is used, among other places, in activity XXX
