Forecasting

Students use existing data as a basis to project developments and explore possible future scenarios.

The method supports students in identifying and assessing potential future developments.

1

Students define the specific topic or trend they want to forecast.

2

They review relevant reports, statistics, etc., and identify useful data.

3

The pupils analyse their data by identifying patterns and trends.

4

Based on the identified patterns and trends, the pupils formulate possible future scenarios.

5

They justify their future scenarios and reflect on what might create uncertainty or prevent their scenarios from becoming reality.

Didactic tips:

  • The methods Similarities and Differences and Venn Diagram can support students in analyzing their data.

  • Students can plot identified data into a fishbone diagram or create a bar chart to help them project trends.

  • They can consider positive (optimistic), negative (pessimistic), and neutral (most likely) scenarios to identify various possible outcomes.
