Method

Dress Rehearsal

The students rehearse their presentation, product, or performance to identify strengths and areas for improvement before the final showcase.

This method supports students’ ability to prepare thoroughly and adjust their work to achieve a better final result.

1

The students carry out a dress rehearsal of their presentation, performance, or product in a realistic setting.

2

The other students or the teacher observe and take notes to provide feedback based on pre-agreed criteria, such as clarity, structure, timing, or impact.

3

The students reflect on their own performance by evaluating what worked well and what can be improved.

4

They receive feedback from the other students that both recognises what worked well and offers specific suggestions for improvement.

5

The students adjust their presentation, performance, or product based on the feedback received and may carry out another dress rehearsal.

Didactic tips

  • Divide the feedback into specific categories, such as content, body language, and delivery, to make it easier to act upon.

  • Encourage students to record their presentation so they can analyse themselves and identify areas for improvement.

  • The dress rehearsal can be held in smaller groups to create a safe environment before students present to a larger audience.

  • Feedback can be structured using methods such as Dress Rehearsal. It is important that the feedback is kind, specific, and constructive.

  • Students can film or audio record their dress rehearsal and afterwards watch or listen to it to spot opportunities for improvement.

  • Encourage students to note down at least one thing they want to change and one thing they want to keep based on the feedback.

  • This method is used, among others, in activity XXX
