METHOD

Timed Round Robin

In groups, students take turns answering a question or challenge within an assigned time.

The method is suitable for sharing knowledge and ensuring that all students get a chance to speak.

1

Ask a question or give a challenge that invites longer answers.

2

Give students thinking and/or preparation time depending on the task.

3

Tell the students how much time each of them has to answer the question/challenge.

4

Tell who starts, and start a timer.

5

Continue until everyone in the group has shared their answer or time is up.

Didactic tips:

  • Let groups keep track of time themselves using a mobile phone. Appoint a timekeeper in each group to remind them when time is almost up.

  • Encourage students to help each other by asking follow-up questions if someone has difficulty filling the time.

  • It’s better to give students slightly too little time than too much, as this creates energy and pace. Adjust the timing based on the task.
