METHOD

Prototyping

Pupils create a physical or digital prototype based on their idea.

This method helps pupils practise turning an idea into something visual and concrete, thereby gaining new insights.

1

Pupils agree on which parts of their idea they want to explore with their prototype. The purpose might be to test functionality, usability, design, or a specific concept.

2

Depending on the nature of the idea and the purpose of the prototype, pupils choose appropriate materials to build it.

3

Pupils build their prototype. They work quickly and experiment without being too perfectionistic. The focus is on creating a model that provides pupils with insight.

Didactic tips:

  • With the Model Drawing method, pupils can, for example, draw and describe their prototype before building it to get an overview of how they want to construct it and which functions it should have. This can be done as a quick sketch or a detailed diagram.

  • Once the prototype is finished, pupils can test it to see if it works as intended. They can also involve others to try it out and observe their reactions and feedback using the User Testing method. Based on the feedback, pupils can make changes and improve the prototype to make it more accurate and functional.
