METHOD

Role-Play Hypothesis

The pupils create role-plays to show what they think will happen in a particular situation.

This method trains their imagination and their ability to physically act out experiences they have never had.

1

The pupils come up with ideas for how an unfamiliar situation or action can be carried out.

2

They try out the ideas through role-play to explore the different situations or actions.

3

They select the idea they believe in the most and practise performing it as a role-play. This then becomes their role-play hypothesis.

4

The pupils take turns presenting their role-play hypotheses to the rest of the class.

Didactic tips:

  • You can use the Silent Brainstorming method or another brainstorming technique to help pupils generate ideas for their role-play.
  • Following the activity, pupils can explore whether their hypothesis holds true in reality, for example by using the User Interview method to interview someone with experience of the situation.
  • Pupils can continue working on confirming or disproving their hypotheses using the Pros and Cons method.
