Weaving Together

Students combine individual ideas into a cohesive whole.

This method trains collaboration, building on others’ input to create a shared solution or story.

Each student first creates an individual contribution, such as an idea, solution, statement, or element, that will be part of the final collective description.

In groups, each student presents their contribution to the rest of the group. Students then note key elements from each contribution.

Groups identify common themes, connections, or key points to form the basis of a combined description.

Groups weave contributions into a coherent description. Students can choose to:

  • Build on one contribution, incorporating parts from others

  • Blend elements from all contributions into a new, unified idea or story

Groups revise their combined description, ensure coherence, and finalise the text or solution.

Didactic tips:

  • Use a creative metaphor like “weaving” or “puzzle” to help students visualise how their individual ideas contribute to a bigger whole.
  • Use a shared digital tool or document where students add their elements and watch the final product take shape.
  • If groups struggle to find common themes, prompt them with questions like: “Which ideas complement each other best?”, “How can these ideas combine into a larger solution?”
  • Have each group create a visual representation of their “weaving” — such as a mind map or timeline — before writing the final text.
  • Optionally, introduce a feedback round where other groups suggest improvements or alternative combinations before sharing the finished work.
