METHOD

Run-Off Voting

Pupils vote for their preferred idea, suggestion, or solution, and then a new voting round is held between the two options with the most votes.

This method ensures a more thorough prioritisation and broader support by focusing on the most popular ideas.

1

Present the ideas, suggestions, or solutions that pupils will be voting on. Ensure that the ideas, suggestions, or solutions are clearly formulated and visible to everyone.

2

Each pupil casts one vote for the idea, suggestion, or solution they prefer.

3

Count the votes and identify the two with the most votes.

4

Pupils vote again, but this time only on the two most popular options.

5

Count the votes from the second round to find the idea, suggestion, or solution with the most support.

Didactic tips:

  • Consider allowing pupils to explain their choices between rounds to encourage reflection and argumentation.
  • You may choose to let more than two ideas, suggestions, or solutions proceed to the second voting round, or include all that have received at least a certain number of votes, determined before the voting.
  • Optionally, use the selected idea as a starting point for the class’s further work.
  • In case of a tie, a third round can be held or combined with the Dot voting method.
  • This method is used, among other activities, in activity XXX.
