ACTIVITY

Get Outside!

Students engage with nature through a variety of sensory activities in a circuit.

This experience fosters a deeper connection to their surroundings and encourages new perspectives on the natural world.

Before:

  • Decide on the location, either the schoolground or a nearby natural area
  • Inform students that they will go outside, so they can bring proper shoes and clothing
  • Print the Activity Cards
  • Prepare the circuit
1

Start with a short conversation about nature. Ask questions as:

  • What do you think nature is?
  • What do you consider nature?
  • Where is nature?
  • Are you often in nature?
  • Do you enjoy being in nature?
2

Then contiue talking about the weather. Ask questions as:

  • What weather is it today?
  • In which weather conditions do you like it most to be outside?
  • In which weather conditions do you prefer to stay inside?
  • What would it be like to be outside right now?
3

Divide the class into small groups. You can do this for example through the methods of Random Groups or Partner Match.

4

Start the circuit! Optionally give students a maximum time at every station.

5

Optionally evaluate experiences together, for example through the Talking Chips method.

Didactic tips:

  • If you decide to leave the playground invite extra adults to join for safety.
  • The activities require calmness and attention, make sure you have enough time.
