ACTIVITY

Launch event

Students prepare and conduct a launch event where they launch a campaign, product, or something else to an invited audience.

The intention is for students to gain experience in launching and communicating their work in an authentic context, to engage an audience, and to experience recognition for their efforts.

1

Tell students that they will be holding a launch event where they will present their campaign, product, or other event to an audience. Explain to them how it will be done, who the guests will be, and what the requirements are for their presentation.

2

Using the Brainstorming method, they come up with ideas in their groups on how to best present their product, as well as which tools can create an engaging event (e.g. visuals, product demonstrations, speeches or interactive elements).

3

The students, with their group, introduce their 5 best ideas to another group. The groups vote on each other’s ideas using the Dot voting method, so that each group reduces their 5 ideas to 2, which they will present to the class.

4

The groups take turns presenting their ideas to the class. The students agree on what the launch event should include and how it should be conducted. If the students cannot agree, they can be divided into new groups to work on different elements of the launch event.

5

Students design posters, flyers, or digital invitations to advertise the event and ensure that an audience comes. The audience could be other students, parents, or people from the local community.

6

Using the Dress Rehearsal method, students practice presenting their campaign or product clearly and engagingly.

7

Students prepare tables, presentation materials, and any decorations to give the room a professional and inviting atmosphere.

8

The guests arrive. The students welcome them and create a good atmosphere.

9

Students present their products/campaigns and invite guests to interact, ask questions and provide feedback.

Didactic tips:

  • Use the launch as a culmination of a project to give students a meaningful conclusion and recognition for their work.
  • If possible, give students responsibility for different roles. Some can be hosts, others can introduce products, manage the technique or document the event with pictures/video.
  • Consider holding the launch reception somewhere outside of school, such as at a library, cultural center or business to make the experience more authentic.
  • Guests can be invited to provide more systematic feedback using a feedback method.
  • Following the launch, let students reflect on and discuss what worked well and what they would do differently next time. They can also reflect on what it was like to launch their product or campaign and receive feedback.
  • Students can use the questions and inputs they have received as a basis for further development of their idea or campaign.
